HISP Africa
Is an consortium encompassing HISP groups in West, Central, Southern, and East Africa, plays a vital role in bolstering information systems across the African continent.
Comprising 14 collaborating HISP groups representing 57 African countries, the initiative is dedicated to the strategic implementation and support of District Health Information Software 2 (DHIS2) and other relevant information technologies within the region.
HISP Africa brings together professionals from Medicine, Informatics, Public Health, Education, Management. Additionally, it leverages the global HISP network community to access specific expertise when needed.
HISP Africa subscribes to the broader HISP vision of fostering “networks of action.” This collaborative approach aims to strengthen information systems by facilitating learning and sharing experiences in software development, customization, installation, training, and implementation.
HISP Africa extends its collaboration beyond the health sector. It works with ministries, higher education institutions, NGOs, and development partners to support the strengthening of information systems and data utilization across various sectors, including environment, education, and governance.

Techincal Expertise
The HISP Africa consortium boasts a comprehensive technical capacity that covers all facets of Information Systems, including software development, server administration, and IT support. We excel in creating IS tools and crafting interoperability solutions. Our teams within the HISP Africa consortium are also subject matter experts from diverse fields such as Statistics, Medicine, Informatics, Public Health, Education, and Management, with backgrounds in both the public and private sectors. This multifaceted expertise empowers us to address complex challenges and deliver cutting-edge solutions in various domains.
Regional Expertise and language fluency
The HISP Africa consortium is present on the ground in 57 African countries, providing support in five languages: English, French, Portuguese, Amharic, and Arabic. This extensive presence ensures a deep understanding of the local contexts in which our national and regional stakeholders operate. Additionally, our language proficiency enables effective communication and tailored local assistance across varied linguistic and cultural environments.
Capacity Building and Training
The HISP Africa consortium significantly invests the technical and non-technical skills of our national and regional stakeholders through a variety of initiatives. These include DHIS2 Academies, technical workshops, in-country training programs, and personalized capacity-building sessions. These efforts ensure that our partners are equipped with the expertise needed to effectively utilize information systems and drive sustainable development across the continent.
Strong Coordination Mechanisms
HISP Africa benefits from a solid foundation of well-established in-country HISP Groups and clearly defined regional structures. These bolster effective cooperation on regional project implementation. Our strong coordination mechanisms and robust financial management enable the HISP Africa network to efficiently manage large-scale, multi-country initiatives, ensuring cohesive and impactful execution across diverse national contexts.
